To be functional and in top shape, all excellent fences require routine maintenance. The first choice when damage is present is whether to repair or replace.

A fence may be restored to near-new condition with little section replacement.  Remove any components that are in the path of the repair to start. Either use a pry bar to remove the fence or a handsaw to remove the damaged area.

Remove the rails and any fences that are attached to the post before fixing it. Use fresh nails to replace the rails and fence when the repair is finished.
